The Jonathan Alder Pioneers took care of business during the first half Friday night at Bellefontaine.
Alder (3-0) scored all the points it needed during the first two quarters and cruised to a 38-8 victory over a young
Chieftains squad.
Quarterback JT Keith connected with receiver Jackson Izzard for a pair of touchdown passes during the first period.
“JT hit Jackson with a pair of quick passes over Bellefontaine’s line,” said JA coach Brett Glass.
Those TD passes accounted for half of Jonathan Alder’s first-quarter scoring.
Will Heisler scored on a two-yard run and Keith found Tyson Mast on an 18-yard touchdown pass.
Kicker Dylan Moore was perfect on his conversions as Jonathan Alder carried a 28-0 lead into the ensuing period.
Heisler sliced through Bellefontaine’s defense for his second touchdown of the night.
This one came from 12 yards out.
Moore booted the PAT that pushed the Pioneers out to a 35-0 margin.
JA drove down the field late in the quarter before Bellefontaine halted the drive.
Moore calmly blasted a 40-yard field goal that sent the Pioneers into the turn with a 38-0 lead.
Glass played a large number of younger athletes throughout the second half.
The Chieftains avoided a shutout with a touchdown late in the third stanza.
Ethan Moore carried the ball into the end zone from 19 yards out.
He also connected with Cole Comstock on a pass for the two-point conversion.
Alder’s defense was downright stingy in giving up yardage.
Bellefontaine managed only 164 total yards, of which 96 came on the ground.
“Our defense played a pretty solid game,” said Glass.
The JA coach was also pleased with the strong play that was exhibited by the Pioneers.
“Our offensive and defensive lines were very physical,” he said.
“It also helped that we forced three turnovers (all interceptions) and didn’t turn the ball over ourselves.”
Alder will put its 3-0 record on the line on Friday.
The Pioneers will host Tecumseh.
