The Richwood-North Union Library will be receiving a new attraction.
For those that would like to spend a day riding a bike in the streets of Richwood, look no further as the library can now offer not only books, but bikes as a part of their Richwood Rides program.
The program, which kicked-off on Thursday and will run until Oct. 31, offers people the opportunity to rent bikes with their library card for up to three hours at a time.
“The goal of the program is to offer residents and visitors options for local active transportation, to encourage physical activity, and to allow people to engage in all the amenities Richwood has to offer,” said Alice Mackey, adult services librarian. “For example; a parent can check out a bike to ride with their kids around the lake, or anyone can check out a bike to ride to meet a friend for lunch.”
To celebrate the program launch, the library held a bike party during the farmer’s market in Richwood.
“We had all sorts of neat activities at the bike party,” added Mackey. “The one I was most excited about is the bike decorations, where kids and adults jazzed up their bikes for the bike parade.”
The library worked in conjunction with Union County Health Department as a part of their Creating Healthy Communities initiative to purchase the bikes and offer them to the village for rent.
For those that are interested they would need to fill out some registration paperwork at the library, wear closed toed shoes and bring a helmet, but the library also has helmets on loan as well.
