The coronavirus mandate of social distancing is having an impact on Marysville High School’s search for a new girls head basketball coach.
Interviews have begun with several candidates who applied to fill the position that was vacated a couple of months ago.
Brooke Young stepped down from the position after guiding the Lady Monarchs to a 21-25 record in two seasons.
The team won its first Division I tournament game in six years by defeating Delaware Hayes during the opening round of the 2020 post-season.
Marysville High School athletic director Joey Day is conducting the first round of interviews via telephone this week.
That is due to the fact that schools throughout Ohio have been closed at least until the first part of May.
Schools were shuttered early last month on an order by Governor Mike DeWine.
“After this first round of interviews, we will determine a final candidate pool,” wrote Day in an email to the Journal-Tribune on Wednesday.
“We will be planning for final interviews next week or the week after and will make a recommendation after that is complete.”
Slightly more than 10 individuals had applied for the position by the end of last week.
Not all of the candidates had submitted full resumes at that time, according to Lynnette Focht, the district’s director of human resources.
There are several local names on the list of candidates.
They include Marysville High School assistant boys coaches Klarke Ransome and Brock Cunningham, Zachary Johnson, head girls basketball coach at Bunsold Middle School; and Jonathan Alder High School assistant boys coach Ryan McClain.
McClain had also previously served as an assistant boys coach at Fairbanks High School.
Others who have submitted resumes include Terrence Toliver, assistant boys coach at Springfield High School; and Ryan Billings, girls JV coach at London High School.
