There is one local youth sports activity that COVID-19 wasn’t able to stop.
The Marysville Stingrays swimming team has received the green light to conduct a 2020 season.
Coach Kristin Williams announced early Friday afternoon the city of Marysville has given approval for the team to begin preseason practice.
The first practice will be held on Tuesday, beginning at 9 a.m., at the Marysville Municipal Swimming Pool.
There will be certain restrictions that swimmers, families and staff must adhere to within coronavirus safety guidelines.
Swimmers are to arrive no earlier than 10 minutes prior to the start of practice sessions.
If youngsters aren’t feeling well, they are to remain at home and contact the coaching staff.
Parents or guardians may only stay for practice, if necessary. They must maintain social distancing while present at the pool.
No parent or guardian will be permitted on the pool deck during practice sessions.
Locker room usage will be limited and all swimmers should arrive and leave practice wearing their swimsuits. They must also bring their own water bottle.
There will be no sharing of water, food or equipment.
Those guidelines will also apply to all meets.
There is no official schedule for meets as of today.
“We will be working on the meet schedule this week,” said Williams. “We hope to have our official schedule finalized by Friday or Saturday of this week.”
The coach said she hopes the season can begin by June 17.
Wednesday evening competition will be for swimmers ages 11 and over.
Meets scheduled on Saturday mornings will be for those ages 10 and under.
