A Jonathan Alder High School swimmer fell short of a huge goal this past weekend.
Pioneer swimmer Eli Stoll competed in the first wave of the United States Summer Olympic Trials.
The Trials were held in Omaha, Neb.
Stoll, 17, competed in the 100-meter backstroke.
He qualified to participate in the Olympic Trials after his effort of 55.89 during a solo time trial.
Stoll had barely fallen short of the Trials qualifying standard of 56.69 during several earlier try-outs.
The Alder sophomore had missed the cutoff during the U.S. Open in Indianapolis earlier this spring.
He reached the time trial cutoff, however, while competing in the 18-U Spring Cup in Richmond, Va.
The first wave of the Olympic trials saw Stoll place 24th out of 60 swimmers with a time of 56.53.
His Trials time of 56.63 was 1.73 seconds behind the winner, Jacob Steele.
Stoll is a member of the Greater Columbus Swim Team.
The second wave of the Trials is scheduled for next week, which was originally when Stoll was reportedly scheduled to compete.
The Summer Games, which were postponed last year due to the coronavirus pandemic, are scheduled to be held in Tokyo, Japan, July 23-Aug. 8.
