Recently the University of Minnesota came to Ohio for a satellite camp at Walsh University. Players from around the state came to the camp to workout for the coaching staff of Minnesota and potentially get an offer to play football for the Golden Gophers.
Marysville’s Thomas Rush was among the athletes on hand to show off his football talents. Rush had already committed to playing running back at Bowling Green State University in the 2019 season, but after the coaches of Minnesota saw Rush at the camp, they decided to make him an offer, but to play outside linebacker.
Rush accepted the offer and has now made a verbal commitment to play for the Golden Gophers.
“The defensive coordinator and Coach (P.J.) Fleck all said what a great job I did at camp, and the offer from Minnesota would be a dream come true,” said Rush. “My best asset is my size and speed combination, and that’s hard to find. Minnesota sees me as a linebacker, which is fine with me.”
Currently rush is tipping the scales at 210 pounds on his 6-3 frame. The Minnesota coaching staff would like to see Rush add about 25 pounds of muscle before putting him at linebacker. For now, Rush can enjoy his last season on the ‘O’ side of the ball with the Monarchs while adding a pound or two before leaving for Minnesota.
