The Triad Cardinals wrestling squad took 27th place out of the 41-team event with a team score of 32.5 points at the Lima Central Catholic Thunderbird Invitational over the weekend.
The Cardinals advanced two wrestlers to the championship rounds on Saturday. Isaiah Leasure (170) fell to Xavier Wiekman of Swanton by an 8-4 decision to take sixth place.
Blake Boldman (152) finished seventh with a 4:43 pin over Covington’s Deacon Shields.
Triad wrestled in eight weight classes.
The remaining Cardinals finished as follows:
-Dustine Instine (113) lost his opening round bout to top-seeded Bryce Maynard of Eastwood by pinfall in 48 seconds. Instine lost in the wrestlebacks and was eliminated.
-Sam Stokes (138) lost by a pin in 2:40 to Kade Wireman of Allen East in the opening round. Stokes also lost by pinfall in the consolation round and was eliminated.
-Coleman Hauck (145) fell by a 14-4 major decision to Seth Meggison of Wayne Trace in his opening round. Hauck won two matches in the consolation bracket, but was eliminated by Curtis Flores of Maderia by a 7-4 decision.
-Dalton Overfield (160) fell to Eli Moore of Wayne Trace by pinfall in 2:16 in the opening round. Overfield went on to lose bypin fall in the second round of the wrestlebacks.
-Thomas Ford (182) began with an opening-round bye
He was pinned by Mikey Brzeczek of Woodmore in just 12 seconds. Ford lost in his opening-round consolation bout to Charles Thomas of Lakota by pinfall.
-John Downey (195) lost his first match by pin fall in 26 seconds to Brandon Dues of Spencerville. Downey was eliminated by pinfall in the wrestle-backs.
The Cardinals will return to the mats on Feb. 6 when they travel to West Jefferson.
