Triad High School is looking for a new head football coach.
Former head coach Zac Winslow resigned last week to take the head coaching position at Elgin High School. Winslow is from the Marion area.
“The trip to and from (Marion) was a lot,” said Triad athletic director Logan Dunn. “He was excited to come back. He was going to be the weight room coordinator, but he got a position that works best for him and his family.”
Winslow served as the Cardinals’ coach for one season, posting a 3-7 record in 2019.
The school district posted the job listing on Thursday with an application deadline of Friday, June 5.
Dunn said he hopes to have a new coach hired by the end of June.
He warned, however, the process could take longer.
“The student-athletes have gone through a lot of changes,” Dunn said. “This will be their third coach in four years, so we’ve got to get the right person.
“We don’t want to do this again next year.”
In the meantime, Dunn will be stepping up his role from athletic director to strength and conditioning coach.
“We want positive momentum moving forward,” he said. “With a new facility and now a new coach, we are trying to build a positive program to help these student-athletes.”
To foster the positive attitude, the district decided to push back the opening of training to June 1 after returning from COVID-19 and Winslow leaving the gridiron program.
“We meet with the Memorial Health and the county health department to make sure our gym was all set up for Monday,” Dunn said.
Dunn has been working with coaches and student-athletes over video conferencing. He has posted workouts online to keep youngsters involved and ready when high school sports return.
