The Marysville High School athletic department will be under new directorship starting with the 2019-20 academic year.
Ryan Walker, who has served as the MHS AD for the past two years, will switch positions within the school district, pending approval by the board of education.
If approved by the board, Walker will become the district’s director of operations.
“The position will involve coordinating non-educational aspects of the school,” Walker told the Journal-Tribune. “That includes custodians, food services and transportation.”
Walker said the new position will be a good match with his educational background.
He has a degree in regional development and economics.
Walker said as athletic director, he has already worked with many of the district’s staff in those departments.
The position became open when Mike White, who currently holds the job, announced his retirement.
Walker said he felt it made sense for him to pursue the new opportunity.
The position of athletic director has been posted as being open.
According to the Ohio High School Athletic Association website, the deadline for applications is Tuesday, April 30.
Prior athletic and/or building administrative experience is preferred.
Walker is the third person to hold the job since the retirement of long-time AD Cal Adams seven years ago.
Joe Bline, who is currently the athletic director at Dublin Jerome, followed Adams.
Bline was succeeded by Stacy Hahn.
Walker said he will not take part in the selection process for the new athletic director.
He said high school principal Tom Cochrane will be heading the search.
