Tuesday’s fierce rainstorm postponed several high school tournament baseball and softball games.
Marysville’s Division I baseball district semifinal against Grove City was washed out at Dublin Coffman.
That game has been rescheduled for today, 7:30 p.m., at Lancaster.
The location was changed due to the fact that Olentangy and Hilliard Darby will play for a district title today at Coffman.
MHS could have played Grove City at Hilliard Darby. However, that diamond has been deemed unplayable after the storm.
The Upper Arlington-Gahanna game, originally scheduled for Darby, has been moved to Marysville.
North Union’s softball squad and the Jonathan Alder baseball team had their games postponed at Olentangy High School.
The Lady Cats are scheduled, weather permitting, to return to Olentangy today at 7 p.m. against Elgin in the Division III district semifinals.
The Pioneers will face Bishop Hartley at 5 p.m. today, also at Olentangy, in the D-II district semifinals.
Pitching was a big reason for the postponement of the Monarch baseball game.
“We didn’t want to start on Tuesday and maybe get only a couple of innings in before the next wave of rain came in,” said MHS assistant coach Todd Wilcox.
“Under the pitch-count rule, if they (either pitcher) would have gotten in a certain number of pitches, they would not have been able to pitch when the game was resumed.
“Even if they hadn’t reached a certain number of pitches, they would have come back sore the following day.”
Freshman Jack Christian was scheduled to start Tuesday’s game. He will still get the nod if the weather allows the game to be played tonight at Lancaster’s Beaver Stadium. That stadium has a turf infield.
The game was originally going to be made up on Thursday, but was switched to today at Lancaster on Tuesday evening.
If the Monarchs beat the Greyhounds, they will play either Olentangy Liberty or Olentangy Orange for a district championship.
That game would be played on Thursday, 5 p.m., at a location to be determined.
If North Union defeats Elgin, the Lady Cats will travel to Pickerington Central to play for the district title.
That game would be against either West Jefferson or Bishop Ready on a date to be determined.
A victory by the JA baseball team would put the Pioneers into the district title game on Thursday at 5 p.m.
Alder would play either DeSales or Heath at a site to be determined.
