Kenneth L. Mitchell, 78, of Marysville, died Monday morning, Jan. 14, 2019, at his home surrounded by his loving and devoted family, following a number of months of failing health.
A 1958 graduate of Northwestern High School, he was a self-employed and well respected contractor in the area since 1968. A man of great faith and integrity, his work ethic was reflected in his beliefs and how he operated his business through many years. Upon retiring in 1998, he began to enjoy wintering in Florida with his wife, Sharon.
He was a practical joker who was the person everyone called to fix things. He was a natural DIY person. His greatest joys involved building and creating things, with the most important being building memories and making sure to take care of his family. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing and collecting Ambassadeur fishing reels.
He was born Jan. 4, 1941, in Union County, to the late Lee and Delma Jordan Mitchell. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Ricky R. Mitchell, grandson, Brandon K. Baker, and brother, Howard Mitchell.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Sharon E. Ridgeway, whom he married Feb. 15, 1958, in Newport, Kentucky; daughter and son-in-law, Gayle and Gary Baker of Marysville; daughter-in-law, Tammi Hilgenberg and her husband, Harry, of Prospect; grandsons, Deryk and Zachary Baker and Jordan Hilgenberg; granddaughters, Allison, Heather and Amy Baker, Brittany (Tyler) Levering and Sara Hilgenberg; great-grandchildren, Marynn, Maddox, Grady and Ellison; brother, Wesley (Dorothy) Mitchell of Marysville; and sister, Phyllis Overfield of Bellefontaine.
Family services were held this morning at Christian Assembly Church. The Revs. Donald Moceri and Dennis Griffin officiated the services. A burial followed services at Oakdale Cemetery. His grandchildren, Deryk Baker, Zach Baker, Jordan Hilgenberg, Tyler Levering, Blake Cingle and Heather Baker, were his casket bearers.
In his memory, contributions may be made to the Union County Shriners Cans for Kids program or Loving Care Hospice in care of Ingram Funeral Home, who is handling the arrangements.
