The Marysville Early College High School has landed at number 50 on the Ohio Department of Education’s performance index ranking among all the state’s schools.
Performance index is a measure of how well students scored on a series of tests.
“Marysville ECHS opened in August 2014, and we’re thrilled to be ranked on this list in the first year we’ll have a class graduating,” Marysville Schools Superintendent Diane Mankins said. “It shows how hard our students and staff have worked and how powerful a focused early college STEM curriculum can be.”
While STEM refers to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, the school takes an approach to learning that focuses on fostering creativity and innovative thinking, according to a press release provided by the district.
The release states that the combination of a STEM curriculum with the early college program has led to success.
Marysville ECHS offers both high school and college-level courses.
By the time a student graduates from Marysville ECHS, he or she could have potentially earned as many as 60 college credits, which is the equivalent of an Associate Degree.
“We’re proud to be among the top in the state,” Marysville Early College High School Principal Kathy McKinniss said. “We’re setting our students on the pathway to help them explore their interests to prepare them for college and careers, and we’re honored to get this recognition.”
