The North Union wrestling team earned a fourth-place finish this past weekend at the Woodmore Wrestling Classic. The Wildcats totaled 266.5 points with host Woodmore notching the team title with 346 points. Collecting individual titles for North Union were Trace Williams (113 pounds), Gabe Hansen (126) and Shan Swank (190). Brody Wilson (215) finished second while Tyler Cline (215) was a B bracket champion. A stifling defense and rebounding domination led North Union’s girls basketball squad to a 49-21 non-league victory at Buckeye Valley. The Lady Cats did not allow the Lady Barons to score any more than seven points in any quarter, including a total of just eight points in the second half. In its last outing earlier in the week, the North Union boys basketball team needed a second-half outburst to defeat Fairbanks. The Wildcats used the opposite approach Thursday night on the road at Bellefontaine. Picking up 24 points in the first quarter, North Union (8-1) never looked back en route to a 61-38 victory over the Chieftains (0-10). Following a recent pattern, the North Union girls basketball team rolled past Elgin 59-23 last week in non-league play at North Union. The pattern the Lady Cats have made great use of is having at least one quarter in which they dominate offensively and defensively to get a big lead. North Union’s girls hoop squad remained unbeaten in Central Buckeye Conference and picked up its fifth straight victory with a 58-30 win at Northwestern. The Lady Cats are now 4-0 in league play and 7-1 overall after Saturday’s game. Scoring 14 points in each of the first three quarters, North Union finished off with a 16-point fourth period.
