Fairbanks football coach Patrick Cotter was pretty pleased with the way his squad played Friday. “Overall, the guys played very well as a team,” said the Panther boss after a 43-6 victory at Cardington. FHS (1-0) held a 14-6 lead after the opening quarter and took a 29-6 margin into the halftime intermission. Both teams put goose eggs on the scoreboard during the third quarter. Fairbanks ran its Ohio Heritage Conference boys golf record to 4-0 with a 168-187 triumph over Springfield Catholic Central. The match was played at Reid Park Golf Club in Springfield. Cole Eger and Chase Brackenridge both shot 40s to lead FHS. They were followed by Devin Emans-43 and Dalton Smith-45. Max Snyder and Mason Sines both carded a 49. Lady Monarchs fall Marysville’s girls shot a team score of 187 and fell to Olentangy Orange, which finished with a 184. Avery Prohaska led MHS with a 43. The Panthers had little trouble in turning back West Jefferson by a 166-195 verdict. Cole Eger led FHS (which is 3-0 in the conference) with a 36. The high school football season is beginning even earlier this year. It’s hard to imagine the preseason scrimmages are over and the regular campaign will begin on Friday. It used to be (in the old days of the 1980s, 90s and into the 2000s) that the season began the Friday before the Labor Day weekend.
