On Sunday, Holy Week comes to an end for the Christian world with the celebration of Easter.
It is a glorious day marking the fact that God’s son, Jesus Christ, was raised from the tomb after being crucified three days before. It underscores God’s message to all believers that they, too, will leave their earthly grave to spend eternity with Him.
This year, Easter comes at a time of great turmoil in our country and across the globe.
In the U.S., a political war is on the horizon with the indictment of former President Donald Trump. In my lifetime, I have not witnessed such deep animosity in the governing of our country. A myriad of serious problems plague the nation including crime in large cities, school shootings, rampant drug use, and many others.
In the world, the focus is on the war in Ukraine, and the ramifications surrounding the unprovoked invasion by Russia masterminded by its president Vladimir Putin. The suffering of Ukrainians is horrible to watch.
But amid all the negativity we have alluded to, Easter occurs bringing with it the sunshine of hope for officeholders working together rather than ridiculing each other, hope for a better world filled with peace instead of war, hope for a religious reawakening to emphasize love for our fellow man and helping them, not ignoring their plights.
Hopefully the message of Easter will resound across all nations and become a permanent replacement for the turmoil of today.
