It’s safe to say that most people are breathing a sigh of relief that the year 2020 has ended.
In addition to the pandemic that negatively affected the vast majority of businesses and individuals, the nation was also wracked with violent racial protests in many large cities. Those protests caused millions of dollars in damages as well as dozens of injuries and some deaths.
If that wasn’t enough, the year was marked by a wave of anti-law enforcement sentiment that included efforts in some cities and states to defund police departments.
Also, the defeat of President Donald Trump in an extremely contentious election brought on a lengthy legal battle to overturn the vote result that further divided the nation politically.
A few businesses enjoyed a measure of success. Those included online shopping venues, delivery companies like UPS, FedEx, and Amazon, pharmacies and outlets that sold supplies for do-it-yourself projects for those staying home.
So the wish for a Happy New Year has taken on a different meaning for 2021.
It highlights a sincere hope that COVID-19 will be cured, ending the pandemic nightmare and bringing a return of some degree of normalcy to life. A hope that people will come to their senses and realize that looting and rioting solve nothing. Moreover, the vast majority of those in law enforcement are good officers putting their lives on the line every day to ensure the safety and protection of everyone.
The year 2021 brings a wish that people will realize that government can’t work with each side hating the other. It was Abraham Lincoln who said that “a house divided against itself cannot stand.”
It is with these thoughts that we firmly hope 2021 will truly be a Happy New Year with a return to a normal, healthy and prosperous way of life for all.
