It’s no secret that there is a local worker shortage.
It’s also no secret that COVID-19 is not going away. Like other sicknesses humans are plagued with, it’s something we have to learn to live with.
With Memorial Health recently announcing a vaccine mandate, the debate turns to the question of how do we get required workers back on the job, but don’t want to take the vaccine?
Because the Delta variant is reportedly on the rise, corporations are moving fast, like CNN which just fired three people for not being vaccinated. CNN is obviously making decisions that its executives think are best for their business, but we fail to see how that helps them during a crisis.
On the other hand, we remember a controversial battle won by Scotts when the company announced it was testing workers for tobacco use and took samples of their hair.
A lot has been said about 50% of the country not wanting to take the vaccine for various reasons, including their own pre-existing conditions or religious beliefs, or just not wanting to put a foreign substance in their body.
Should that mean they are not allowed to go to their job?
Because we are still in the middle of the COVID storm, it’s hard to know what the right way to go is. So in the near term, we think everyone should step back and take a breath so they can look at the big picture.
We don’t think rushing to judgment by those with concerns about the vaccine is the right way to go.
