Our congratulations to Fairbanks High School for being ranked high in the list of best high schools in Ohio and in America.
This is the seventh year in a row that Fairbanks has been in the top tier of recognition by the U.S. News and World Report magazine. All other schools in Union County were unranked this year, and to our knowledge, have never been honored by U.S. News.
The magazine looked at 822 high schools in Ohio and 20,500 nationwide, and Fairbanks ended up in the top six percent in both the state and nation. It was 46th in Ohio and 1,294th in the U.S. It is the 12th year that U.S. News has calculated and published these results.
Rankings are based on several criteria including proficiency test results, graduation rates, how well students are prepared for college and student performance in relationship to poverty levels.
Fairbanks Supt. Bob Humble has every right to be proud of the accomplishments of FHS Principal Tom Montgomery, other staff members and of course, the students. Parents can also feel good knowing the high quality of education their children are receiving.
We commend the school for the honor it has earned.
