You have to wonder why anyone in their right mind would want to run for office in Washington DC, whether it be for Congress or the White House.
First, you have to go through the scrutiny and approval of your party. This involves going back through your entire life to see if there are any black marks that would smear your good name. If approved, you then have to raise a tremendous amount of money for campaign expenses. The first campaign is in the Primary against others in your party who want the same job and who went through the same ordeal as you. If you win at that level, you now have to run in the General Election with a second campaign against the person who did the same thing in the other party that you did in yours. A victory at this level doesn’t mean that you can now breathe easy and enjoy your accomplishment. It’s only the beginning.
During your time in office, no matter how hard you try to make the right decisions, you will be ridiculed and accused of all sorts of sins – lying, sexual wrongdoings, accepting bribes, acts of fraud, and on and on. You will be called every name in the book.
You don’t agree with this assessment? Just look at what President Donald Trump has to face every day since his election. Even though some criticism of him may be warranted, no president in the history of the country has had to endure the shameful treatment he has experienced and continues to experience from so many different people and entities. We call this the swamp treatment.
This morass can and does filter down to senators and representatives. Rep. Jim Jordan, Congressman from the district including Union County, is currently experiencing it. He has been very vocal during the past several months about various inequities in the nation – the Mueller investigation, the FBI and Justice Department biases and the Hillary Clinton probe. Now he is coming under fire with unverified accusations of not reporting some alleged sexual abuse situations some 25 years ago that he supposedly knew about when he was an assistant wrestling coach at The Ohio State University.
His two main accusers, former wrestlers at OSU, both have very questionable financial backgrounds. But the question again is, as in other similar scenarios, if the accusations are true and the wrongdoing so bad, why didn’t these people report them to the media and authorities when they happened so long ago? The fact that they waited until Jordan has made a name for himself smells all the way to the trash dump and the bank. Were they paid to come out now that Jordan is being touted as a possible replacement as Speaker of the House?
The Congressman has adamantly denied these claims, and says he is ready and able to produce witnesses to substantiate his statement. We feel that this type of Salem Witch hunt is occurring far too often, and has become standard procedure in the Washington DC swamp.
Hopefully it can be drained as Trump said he would do, and the country can return to a decent, honest, honorable and common sense approach to government.
