Everyone knows when the school year starts, so do extracurricular groups. One very popular activity, with over one hundred different members, is choir.
There are three auditioned after-school choirs; two a cappella choirs and the well-known Marysville Swingers Unlimited show choir. During school, there are four choirs, two of which are audition based.
Different years have only offered three choirs during school hours: the Concert Choir, the Women’s Select Chorus, and the Symphonic Choir. This change began last year during the fourth quarter when the Concert Choir split into separate men’s chorus and women’s chorus. These two choirs are still non-auditioned and teach songs that are to be performed at the concerts throughout the year.
After these two classes, or participation in Women’s Select Chorus, members can choose to audition for Symphonic Choir, or remain in the choir they are currently in. For their first concert, the choir program is centered around the idea of “peace and love.”
“In this time of violence and hate, we are trying to focus on love,” said choir director Mrs. Hainrihar. This purpose of the theme is to bring more positivity into MHS.
The first choir concert of the 2016-2017 year is Monday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m.
