Dear Editor,
I would like to publicly acknowledge the Marysville Schools athletic department, high school administration, district leaders, coaches, band directors and all the associated support personnel for the hard work that went into providing a fall season for our student athletes, cheerleaders and band members. Even though this season was not what we were used to, or what we dreamed it would be like when we started, as a senior parent I am grateful we had the opportunity to participate, make some wonderful memories and close out this chapter.
Back in the summer, as the fall season was getting closer, there were lots of questions as to what would be allowed, the rules for each unique sport, the safety requirements and so on. It would have been easy for the school to say it wasn’t worth it, or it would be too difficult and simply cancel everything. But instead, the school decided that they would do whatever possible to make something happen. Throughout the summer and fall, plans were constantly being updated and changed based on the latest requirements. This put additional stress and work on a lot of the same people who were also trying to provide the best educational opportunities for our students. And now that the fall activities are winding down, I am certain that these same individuals are already working hard on the winter and spring seasons. Much of this work happens behind the scenes, but it has not gone unnoticed and it is appreciated by many parents and families.
I would encourage the community to let these people know how much you appreciate everything they have done, because the work isn’t over. There will be challenges for the rest of the school year and, maybe, even beyond that. But the school district has shown that they will be creative and work hard to provide the best experiences possible.
Eric Bates,
Marysville
