According to Plain City Police Department reports:
An officer was dispatched to Lantern Lane in reference to a soliciting complaint at 4:58 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 16. The caller advised the subject was soliciting for Terminex. Upon arrival, the officer checked the area but was unable to locate the subject. The officer then met with the caller, who inquired if the solicitor needed a permit if the caller has an account with the business. The officer advised the caller that a business does not need a permit to solicit current customers.
An officer was dispatched to West Main Street in reference to a bad check complaint at 4:07 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 16. Upon arrival, the officer met with the branch manager for the Plain City Security National Bank branch. The manager advised the officer that she was notified of a check that was returned as fraudulent/altered. The manager advised that they have contacted the subject on several occasions to seek payment for the check and the subject has not returned with payment. The officer advised the managed that they would look into the matter and let her know the findings.
An officer responded to an alarm drop at Miller’s Furniture on South Jefferson Avenue at 5:42 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 16.
An officer responded to a 911 unknown on Dogwood Court at 11:55 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17. Upon arrival, the officer made contact with the caller who stated that the phone was malfunctioning and dialing 911. The officer spoke with the caller further and determined there was nothing out of the ordinary.
An officer responded to South Jefferson Avenue in reference to a suspicious person complaint at 9:02 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17. The manager of McDonald’s stated that a male subject had been walking around the store for an extended period of time. Upon arrival, the officer made contact with the subject and advised the subject of the complaint. The subject stated that he was simply trying to make conversation and did not intend to make anyone uncomfortable.
An officer received a complaint in regard to a solicitor on Dickens Lane at 1:48 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17. The complainant stated he did not answer the door, but since the solicitor left a business card and there have been several other solicitor complaints recently, he wanted to report it. The officer called and spoke to the subject, who works for Universal Builders. The officer informed the subject that the Village of Plain City requires a permit and she should check before soliciting. Subject advised she would advise her boss and wouldn’t do any soliciting before getting a permit.
An officer responded to a suicide threat on West South Street at 3:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17. The caller stated that he had received several text messages from the subject. Upon arrival, the officer made contact with the subject who agreed to be voluntarily transported to the hospital to be evaluated.
An officer observed a Honda Civic pull into Pastime Park on North Chillicothe Street at 1:34 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17. The officer made contact with the driver who stated that he was an Uber driver and that he had dropped someone off at one of the campsites.
An officer responded to the listed location in reference to a private property crash on West Bigelow Avenue at 9:39 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with the complainant and Lisa Allen. After speaking to both parties, it was found that Allen was backing her white Mitsubishi SUV out of a parking spot and struck the complainant’s vehicle, a black Jeep, that was also parked. The officer immediately detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from Allen’s person. After further investigation, Allen was placed into custody for operating a vehicle under the influence and transported to the Plain City Police Department where she submitted to a BAC test resulting in a 0.196g/210L. Allen was issued a traffic citation for operating a vehicle under the influence and operating a vehicle under the influence – super concentration.
An officer was dispatched to Harrington Drive in reference to a suspicious person/vehicle at 2:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18. The caller advised that a white male had stopped in front of his residence and appeared to be taking photos. Upon arrival to the area, the officer eventually located the vehicle on Lantern Lane near Carriage Drive. The officer made contact with the subject who advised that he was an appraiser and had an appointment in the area at 2:30 p.m. The subject confirmed that he had taken pictures of a residence on Harrington Drive for work purposes.
An officer was met on station by an anonymous passerby who advised that she had found an Ohio Driver’s License at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18. The officer contacted the owner and advised her that the license was at the police department. The subject stated that she would contact PCPD when she would be picking it up.
An officer responded to a report of theft on Lafayette-Plain City Road at 6:10 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19. An officer received a call from the Director of Edgewater Place Assisted Living stating that an employee quit that day and took a key to the medical office, which houses their medications. The complainant advised that they had called the employee and requested she bring the key back, but she never showed up. Another employee also texted her, but the subject did not show up. The complainant requested that the officer make contact with the employee and have her bring the key back. The officer was able to make contact with the employee and advise her of the incident. She stated that she never received a text message from anyone, but was currently on her way to drop off the key. The officer relayed the information to the complainant and also advised her to contact the police department if there were further issues.
An officer responded to a report of a solicitor on Converse Avenue at 3:50 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19. The officer received a call from a complainant, who advised the officer that there was a female walking in one of the alleys west of Converse Avenue. The female was on her cell phone, reportedly crying and saying that she didn’t want to go back to jail. Upon arrival, the officer located and made contact with the subject. The subject informed the officer that the Social Security Administration called her and said that she owed them money and there was a warrant out for her arrest. The officer advised the subject that she was being scammed. The officer explained the scam to the subject in detail. The subject advised that she understood it. Upon further investigation, the officer learned that the subject was soliciting without a permit. The officer requested that the subject make contact with her boss and have her come to the scene. A few minutes later, the officer made contact with the subject’s boss. Both subjects were given a warning for soliciting without a permit and advised to gather up all of their employees. Subjects were provided instructions on how to obtain a legal permit.
An officer conducted a routine registration check on a maroon Ford Taurus traveling northbound on South Chillicothe Street at 3:29 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19. The registration returned to Melissa Vanhook, a suspended driver. The registration also returned to a different vehicle, a gray Toyota Echo. The officer initiated a traffic stop with the vehicle and made contact with the vehicle driver, Vanhook. The officer advised her of the reason for the traffic stop. Vanhook was later issued a citation for driving on a judgement suspension, no valid operator’s license, failure to reinstate and fictitious tags. Vanhook’s vehicle was towed to the Plain City Police Department impound lot.
An officer responded to Gray Street for a report of a loose dog that was reportedly vicious at 10:35 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19. Upon arrival, the officer made contact with the complainant who advised that, while he was walking out to his garden at the rear of his property, he was confronted by a neighbor’s dog. While speaking with the complainant, the owner of the dog approached. The officer then spoke to the dog owner, who advised that she let the dog outside and continued brushing her teeth. When she finished, she went to let the dog in but saw the dog with the complainant. She yelled for the dog, which came to her. The officer gave the dog owner a warning for allowing to let her dog run at large and for failing to register.
An officer responded to Central Avenue in reference to a 911 follow-up at 6:28 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19. Upon arrival, the officer made contact with both residents, who advised she somehow hit the emergency button on her phone while turning the alarm off. There did not appear to be any issues and both advised they were getting the kids ready for school.
An officer was dispatched to the McDonald’s on South Jefferson Avenue in reference to an unknown medical problem at 12:23 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19. Upon arrival, the officer observed the subject inside of her white Toyota. The subject advised she previously had a medical condition that causes her to sometimes get sick and pass out. The subject was them transported to the hospital by the medic.
An officer responded to Stenner Court in reference to a well-being check at 8:46 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20. The caller advised that she had not seen the man who lives at the listed location out and about today, which was abnormal. The officer was unable to make contact with the resident after knocking on the door and ringing the doorbell. The officer later made contact with the resident’s son, who advised his father was in the hospital but everything was fine. The officer relayed this information to the reporting party.
An officer spoke over the phone with a complainant who advised the officer that she and her neighbor were in a verbal dispute on Gray Street at 5:52 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20. The officer later spoke with the neighbor who advised the officer that she and the complainant both had choice words for each other. Both parties were advised not to speak to each other if they couldn’t get along.
An officer conducted a routine registration check on a silver Dodge Van on U.S. 42 at 4:12 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20. The registration returned to Donald Wester, a suspended driver. The officer initiated a traffic stop with the vehicle and made contact with the vehicle owner/driver, Wester. The officer advised Donald the reason for the traffic stop. He was issued a traffic citation for operating a vehicle under the influence suspension x2 and no valid operator’s license. Wester’s vehicle was towed to the Plain City Police Department impound lot. He was picked up by a valid driver.
An officer responded to the Marathon/Lovejoy Food Mart on West Main Street at 3:46 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with an employee of the business who advised the officer a yellow vehicle had driven off without paying for $34 in gas. The officer was able to make contact with the vehicle owner, who advised the officer that he swiped his card and pumped his gas with no issues. The driver later went back to Marathon and paid the outstanding balance.
An officer was dispatched to East Main Street in reference to two motorcycles parked in the no-parking zone for the road construction at 7:37 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 20. Upon arrival, the officer located the motorcycles. The officer then made contact with the resident who was advised of the complaint and that the motorcycles needed to be moved. While speaking with the resident, the officer advised the motorcycle owner that the motorcycle parked on the sidewalk also needs moved. The officer then stood by while the resident moved the motorcycles.
While investigating another incident at the Dollar General on South Jefferson Avenue, an officer made contact with David Cornstock at 10:52 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21. Upon speaking with Cornstock, the officer learned that he had an entered warrant for Failure to Appear out of Fostoria Municipal Court. After confirming the warrant, the officer placed Cornstock in custody and transported him to the Tri-County Regional Jail. The officer then released Cornstock into their custody and returned to patrol.
An officer responded to Schrock’s Auto/Ztech Transmission on South Jefferson Avenue in reference to the sound of gunshots at 10:33 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21. The caller stated that while parked at Dollar General, he observed two people in the parking lot just north of his location. The caller stated that a short time later, he heard what sounded like two gunshots coming from that area. The caller stated that when he looked back to where the people were previously, they were gone. The officer checked the area but was unable to locate anything out of the ordinary.
An officer was dispatched to Murlay Drive in reference to a 911 follow-up at 2:48 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21. Dispatch advised the male they spoke with advised that it was a pocket dial. Upon arrival, the officer met with the caller who confirmed everything was fine and apologized for the incident. Upon determining everything to be fine, the officer returned to patrol.
While on patrol, an officer observed an open door of a vehicle at Madison Square Apartments on Fairfield Drive at 12:51 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21. The officer then made contact with the registered owner, who checked the vehicle and advised nothing was missing and shut the door.
An officer was dispatched to Fairfield Drive in reference to a 911 follow-up at 11:06 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22. Dispatch advised that the caller stated it was accidental. Upon arrival, the officer made contact with the caller, who confirmed everything was fine and advised his phone called 911 when he dropped it.
While on patrol, the officer observed a Toyota van parked in the front parking lot of Plain City Elementary School on South Chillicothe Street at 12:24 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22. The officer made contact with the vehicle’s driver and the passenger. The driver stated that they were picking someone up from a residence in Palin City at 3 a.m. and had parked in the lot to wait until that time.
