A multi-vehicle crash that closed U.S. 33 and snarled traffic in Marysville for hours was caused by a wrong way driver, according to police.
Deputy Chief for Marysville Division of Police Tony Brooks said that at 3:52 p.m., Wednesday, Richard Beesinger, 63, of Marysville, was driving the wrong way on U.S. 33 westbound when he struck a semi-truck, causing his vehicle to roll over several times. The incident resulted in a six-vehicle pileup.
Brooks said Beesinger was charged with driving under the influence, driving under an OVI suspension, and driving the wrong way on one-way streets.
Beesinger was taken by helicopter to Grant Medical Center in Columbus and admitted Wednesday night for treatment, according to Brooks. He said he did not know the extent of Beesinger’s injuries and did not know whether he was still being treated
Brooks said preliminary reports indicate there were no other injuries, besides those to Beesinger.
Brooks said U.S. 33 westbound was closed from about 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., while eastbound traffic was stopped for a shorter period of time to allow for the MedFlight helicopter to land.
Beesinger is set to appear at 8 a.m. Friday in Marysville Municipal Court.
