The Union County grand jury has indicted a Woodstock man accused of trying to rob a local pharmacy.
Ian John Keller, 24, 115 Burnwell St., Woodstock, has been indicted, charged with one count each of robbery, attempted theft of drugs, possession of criminal tools, carrying a concealed weapon and having weapons under a disability.
According to court documents, on Oct. 3, Keller went to the CVS Pharmacy on West Fifth Street in Marysville. About 9:59 a.m., that day, authorities began to receive calls from store employees, customers and witnesses reporting a robbery in progress.
The callers reported that a man in a black hooded sweatshirt with a purple bandana covering his face went in the store then to the pharmacy area. The man allegedly implied he had a weapon and demanded Percocet. Keller allegedly had a .380 semi-automatic handgun in his front waistband, and a .22 revolver in his rear waistband.
Officers arrived within a minute of the call and found Keller near the back of the store. Authorities ordered him to the ground and took him without incident.
Deputy Chief Tony Brooks said investigators interviewed Keller after the incident.
“He basically related it to just a very poor decision,” Brooks said.
The suspect’s vehicle, a purple Honda hatchback, was located a short distance down the street and was seized. Brooks said authorities determined Keller was acting alone from the contents of the vehicle.
“There was no other room inside the vehicle for there to be another person,” Brooks said.
Keller is being held in Tri-County Regional Jail. Bond has ben set at $100,000. In addition to penalties for the crimes, prosecutors are asking the court to impose additional prison time because of Keller’s guns and to force him to surrender the weapons.
