The Fourth of July is rapidly approaching and with it comes local celebrations including fireworks, live music, food and games.
Festivities in Marysville will kick off at 7 a.m., July 4 in the hall of American Legion Post 79, 500 Park Ave., with a pancake breakfast until 9 a.m. The breakfast will be followed by a decorated-bicycle contest in the parking lot.
The parade line-up begins at 9:15 a.m. at American Legion Park and the parade will begin at 10 a.m. The parade will travel east on Fifth Street to Plum Street, west on Sixth Street, and end at the Union County Courthouse parking lot. Hand-held flags will be provided to children along the parade route, according to information provided by Legion Post 79.
A Rock-n-Ribs Fest will take place starting at 11 a.m. at the Union County Fairgrounds followed by fireworks at dusk, according to information provided by the City of Marysville.
Plain City’s parade will begin at 3 p.m. on July 4. Shucking Bubba Deluxe will provide live entertainment starting at 6 p.m. at Pastime Park. Other games, bounce houses, and food can be found at Pastime Park throughout the day, according to a release on the Plain City website. Fireworks will start at 9:45 p.m.
Ostrander will hold many Independence Day activities at Buckeye Valley West Elementary, but the parade check-in will be at Second and Henry Streets at 9 a.m. July 4. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. Vendors will begin set-up at the school at that time. Chicken dinners will be sold in the cafeteria at 11 a.m. Activities offered throughout the afternoon include a dunk tank, water balloons, bounce house and slide. Wristbands will be available at the shelter house from 11 a.m. through noon.
Kiddie Tractor Pull sign-ups will occur at 12:30 p.m. on the basketball court. A softball tournament, corn hole tournament, pie eating contest and basketball shooting contest will also take place in the afternoon. Those wanting to sign up are asked to use Sign Up Genius. The link to sign ups can be found on the Ostrander Facebook page. Next of Kin will perform at 5:30 p.m. Vendors, other food and a raffle will also take place during the festivities. Fireworks will be set off at dusk.
Prospect officials are inviting the community to “enjoy family oriented fun all day.” According to information from the village, kids attractions and games, entertainment, prizes, food and pony rides will be available at Prospect Community Park. A raffle will also be held. Fire works will begin at dusk.
North Lewisburg’s celebration will begin at 11 a.m., July 7 at Community Park with a baseball tournament. Activities for children, including bounce houses, and 20 food and craft vendors will set up throughout the park. Fireworks will start at dusk. According to North Lewisburg Mayor Cheryl Hollingsworth, the event is sponsored by the PTA and the Fall Festival Committee.
Mechanicsburg will hosting its Summer Celebration on July 14. The day will start with a farmers market in Unity Park, followed by a parade through town at 2 p.m. that will end at Goshen Park. The park will be filled with food and craft vendors, live music from WARship and Evolution, DJ Drew Goings, baseball and corn hole. Fireworks will be in the evening, according to a release sent by Police Chief John Alexander.
