The 15th annual Union County Veterans Day and Voice from the Stone program will be held at the Veterans Plaza on the Union County Courthouse lawn at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7.
The ceremony will feature the life and service of Lieutenant Colonel James Curry from the American Revolutionary War. Rick Curry, a retired Army veteran, will be the guest speaker.
During the program, at least 34 new paver stones will be dedicated at the Union County Veterans Monument and Plaza. There are currently 2,200 veteran pavers installed in the plaza and 5,400 veteran records accessible at the plaza’s kiosk and online at www.ucvetmemorial.org.
Plain City
Plain City’s Veterans Day event will be held from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Nov. 11 at the old elementary school, 340 W. Main Street.
The event will feature music from the Jonathan Alder Band and is sponsored by the Plain City American Legion Post 248 and Plain City VFW Darby Post 3268 and Auxiliary.
Jerome Township
The Jerome Township Veterans Day ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at the monument at U.S. 42 and Industrial Parkway. In the case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved to the Jerome Township Hall, 9777 Industrial Parkway.
The event will feature a speaker from Kenneth Rafliff, placing of the memorial wreath and a benediction from the Rev. Dr. Bob Bowers, along with the playing of Taps.
Richwood
North Union Elementary School students will pay tribute to veterans on Nov. 11.
This year, local heroes are invited to participate in the first “Reverse Veterans Day Parade.” Weather permitting, the parade will begin at 1:15 p.m. from the intersection of Veterans Way and Grove Street. Participants are asked to line up from Lynn Street and make their way past the Veterans Memorial as the parade route proceeds down Grove Street and onto the North Union Elementary School grounds.
Any veteran who served during peace or war time is invited to attend and is encouraged to decorate his or her vehicle for the reverse parade. A virtual assembly will also be shared online that morning on the elementary school’s web page and Facebook page. VFW Post 870 and American Legion Post 40 also invite all local veterans, VFW Auxiliary members and their guests to the free Veterans Day brunch from 10 a.m.-noon Nov. 11 at the VFW on the corner of North Franklin Street and Blagrove Street.
Veterans do not need to be a member of the VFW or American Legion.
Crowbar and Grill will prepare scrambled eggs, sausage gravy, sausage patties, fried potatoes and coffee.
The Somersville Evangelical Friends Church, 27522 Route 31 in Somersville, is offering a free dinner to veterans, law enforcement and their families from 5-6:30 p.m. Nov. 7. The menu will be homemade beef and noodles, mashed potatoes, rolls, green beans, cookies, coffee, punch and water.
