The recent Equine Educational Summer Youth Camp, held annually at the Union County Fairgrounds, hosted a very unique equestrian demonstration at the end of last week. “Combatants Keep,” a modern jousting group performed for the camp participants and their parents, exhibiting their skills in mounted games and training exercises from the medieval era. Tom and Kim Nader, owners and founders of “Combatants Keep,” travel and compete all over the United States. They are supported by a specialized crew consisting of Victoria Nader, equine major at Midway University, as their sound engineer, Elijah Harris, first year jouster in training, Sammie Lobenstein, a senior at Wright State University, Jerrod Teegarden, a sophmore at Mississinawa High School, Carrie Gibboney, a student of life and equine pursuits, and Maggie, a 21 year old Percheron cross mare, and a 16-year-old Clydesdale gelding named “Bud.” The group specializes in historical entertainment and educational demonstrations, as well as historical and modern competitions.
