The number of deaths related to COVID-19 in Union County has reached double digits.
Deaths jumped from eight to 13 on Wednesday, according to data from the Ohio Department of Health.
Union County Health Department Public Information Officer Jennifer Thrush said the five most recent deaths occurred from Nov. 20 through Nov. 30.
Of the 13 deaths, four individuals were in the 60-69 age range, two in the 70-79 age range and seven that were 80 or older.
According to ODH, seven of the Union County deaths occurred in long-term care facilities, although it does not specify where.
Union County has experienced 1,935 cases of COVID-19, 83 of which have required hospitalization. The Union County Health Department does not include cases among individuals living at the Ohio Reformatory for Women.
The majority of both cases and hospitalizations have occurred in the past month.
1,219, or 63%, of the cumulative cases were reported from Nov. 2 to Dec. 1, while 222 cases were reported in the past week.
48, or 58%, of the hospitalizations also occurred in the same time period.
As of Wednesday, 466 local residents are currently actively ill and in isolation with reported infections.
UCHD and Lower Lights Christian Health Center continue to offer free COVID-19 testing on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Beginning Dec. 7, the testing location will move to the Union County Fairgrounds, 845 N. Main Street.
