A local man could be facing as many as three years in prison following a hit and run crash in Marysville.
The Union County Grand Jury has charged Angelo Dominic Tocci, 42, of 16525 Martin Welch Road, with two counts of operating a vehicle while under the influence and one count each of assault, resisting arrest and failure to stop after an accident.
“He was violent once he was taken into custody,” Union County Prosecutor Dave Phillips said.
According to court documents, about 10:50 a.m., June 17, police responded to the Five points area, at the intersection of Delaware Avenue, Columbus Avenue, Cherry Street and Fifth Street in Marysville, on a report of an impaired driver. When police arrived to the area, they saw Tocci walking about a block from the intersection.
“Mr. Tocci was highly intoxicated and could barely stand under his own power,” according to a police statement. “It was discovered that Mr. Tocci was driving and rear ended another vehicle. Mr. Tocci then proceeded to exit his vehicle and walk away from the scene of the accident.”
When officers went to put handcuffs on the man, Tocci, “began to actively resist.” Once the handcuffs were on, Tocci “started to become dead weight and was attempting to sit on the ground.”
As the officers tried to put Tocci in the police cruiser, he “put his foot up on the cruiser and attempted to kick back away from the cruiser.”
“We had to place Mr. Tocci head first, on his stomach, in order to get him into the back of the cruiser,” according to the police statement. “At that point, Mr. Tocci began kicking his legs and kicked (an officer) three times in the left arm.”
Phillips said that at least once, Tocci pinned the officer against a partition in the cruiser.
While on his way to the jail Tocci, “hit his head several times off of the divider causing several small lacerations above his right eye,” according to the report.
If convicted, Tocci could face more than three years in prison.
