Following the first snow of the season, several Union County roads and highways were temporarily closed due to accidents.
According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. 33 westbound was closed between Honda Parkway and Route 245 at 7:01 p.m. Monday.
Reports indicate deputies and units from the Allen Township Fire Department, Marysville Fire Department, Liberty Township Fire Department and the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to U.S. 33 near Holycross-Epps Road to investigate an injury crash involving three vehicles at 6:44 p.m. Monday.
Two victims were transported to Memorial Hospital. Additional details regarding those involved were not available at press time.
The road reopened at 8:34 p.m.
Another highway, U.S. 42, was closed between Wells Road and Harriott Road following a crash.
Deputies and units from the Jerome Township Division of Fire and the Concord Township Fire Department responded to the area to investigate an injury crash at 7 p.m.
Reports indicate a 2013 Volvo semi-tractor was struck by a 2011 Dodge Nitro.
One victim was transported to Riverside Methodist Hospital. Additional details were not available at press time.
A pair of Tuesday morning accidents also caused road closures.
Jerome Road was closed between Brock Road and Scioto Road following a crash at 6:25 a.m. The road reopened to traffic nearly one hour later, at 7:17 a.m.
The right lane of U.S. 33 westbound over U.S. 36 was also closed after a crash at 9:26 a.m. It reopened at 10:13 a.m.
The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory at 6:48 a.m. Tuesday, following an earlier Level 1 Snow Emergency, advising residents in Union County, as well as several other central Ohio counties, of continuing snow.
The agency alerted residents of up to one inch of additional snow accumulation.
Those traveling are encouraged to be mindful of slippery road conditions and to “slow down and use caution” while driving.
