Edgewood Elementary School engaged in a lockdown Friday afternoon after Marysville Police Department officers were in pursuit of an individual who fled from receiving medical treatment.
Thomas Holdren, elementary school principal, issued a Friday email to Edgewood parents about the incident stating an individual tried to hide in an area just outside of the Edgewood Elementary property line.
“Local law enforcement notified me of what was occurring, and we implemented our safety plan immediately,” the email states. “Students, visitors and staff were put on lockdown so no one could enter or exit the building. Students continued learning this time.”
After a short foot chase, the subject was apprehended behind Edgewood Elementary in the Grove Street area, said Tony Brooks, Marysville deputy chief of police.
The individual in need of medical attention was later transported by medics to Memorial Hospital.
Once the issue was resolved the lockdown was lifted.
“Due to the efficient and effective action of the Marysville Police Department, the individual was apprehended quickly and safely,” Holden’s email states.
