Fairbanks High School has announced its valedictorians and salutatorian for its 2018-19 graduation ceremony planned for Saturday at 10 a.m. at the football stadium.
Three valedictorians and one salutatorian will cross the stage this coming Saturday.
Valedictorians
Abigail Gerty is the daughter of Michael and Nicole Gerty of Plain City. Throughout her high school career, she has been involved in science club, FCCLA, Interact Club, and National Honor Society where she is vice president. She also serves on student council as president.
Gerty has been involved in multiple sports including basketball, golf, and cross-country. She has volunteered in the Emergency Department of Memorial Hospital for the last three years and is actively involved in Young Life, a high school ministry.
When she is not spending hours at the school, she is working on her college classes or working at Starbucks in Marysville. She is the recipient of the Provost Scholarship and the Land Grant Opportunity Scholarship.
She will be attending the Ohio State University to study neuroscience.
Leanne Rhoades is the daughter of Bob and Laura Rhoades of Marysville. Throughout high school, she has been heavily involved in the band program. She has been a member of the marching band, pep band, and concert band for four years and has served as the trumpet section leader in these bands for the past two years.
Additionally, she has been involved in mock trial for four years where she was an attorney on the Fairbanks team that was a state finalist this year. She is also a three-year varsity letter winner for the cross-country team and a member of National Honor Society. Outside of school, Rhoades attends Hilliard Church of Christ where she teaches preschool classes and plays the keyboard for the worship band.
She plans to attend Kent State University to major in architecture.
Kate White is the daughter of Chuck and Cindy White of Marysville. She attends Trinity Lutheran Church in Marysville where she is an active member of the youth group and helps with Sunday school and confirmation classes.
She is involved in several different clubs at Fairbanks including marching band, pep band, National Honor Society, mock trial, Interact Club, and drama club. She is the senior class secretary and the public relations officer of FCCLA.
Both her sophomore and junior year she was the Americanism Post Test winner and also was named the Outstanding Government Student her junior year.
She was elected as the Fall Homecoming Queen.
White has been active in 4-H, being president of the Scissors and Sandwiches 4-H Club, a camp counselor, and a member of the junior fair board and advisory council. She recently finished a one-year term as a young adult member of the Buckeye Leadership Workshop Board of Trustees. She plans to attend the University of Kentucky with a social work major.
Salutatorian
Mason Smith was named the salutatorian this year.
He is the son of Andy and Lisa Smith of Marysville. Throughout high school, he has been involved in soccer, football, basketball, baseball, track, science club, drama club, National Honor Society, and Interact Club. He is a member of 4-H and is employed at Integrated Ag Services. Mason plans to attend the University of Cincinnati to major in mechanical engineering.
