Martin (Marty) Gitlin, from Cleveland, will meet with Marysville book lovers to tell of his journey as a writer and his love for sports, history and historical pop culture at the next installment of the visiting author series.
Gitlin will discuss his works on Tuesday, March 3, at Veterans Memorial Auditorium, 233 W. Sixth St. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
Gitlin has spent four decades as a sports writer and has a broad spectrum of interests. He has written nonfiction books on many subjects and has received more than 45 awards, including first place for general excellence in from the Ohio Associated Press for his coverage of the World Series in 1995.
He is a very versatile writer, authoring books on a variety of topics. In 2008 he wrote “Diana, Princess of Wales.” He also wrote several history books for students, including “Brown versus the Board of Education,” “Battle of the Little Bighorn” and “Stock market Crash, 1929.”
He was inspired by his love of Saturday morning cartoons as a child, so as an adult he co-authored a book titled “A Celebration of Animation.” He has also written biographies about NASCAR drivers Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon.
Residents are invited to meet Gitlin and hear about his writing adventures. Books will be available for purchase and the author will sign selections.
Tickets are available at the door or at the Marysville Public Library. Students will be admitted free.
