A former nurse is in trouble again after allegedly stealing drugs from a patient.
The Union County Grand Jury has indicted Amy M. Jolliff, 45, of 409 Terrace Drive, charging her with one count each of theft of drugs and tampering with evidence.
Union County Prosecutor Dave Phillips said Jolliff had been a registered nurse, working at a hospital, but had her license suspended in 2018.
“She had apparently had some issues with oxycodone,” Phillips said. “There were different indications she had been involved with oxycodone.”
After having her license suspended, Jolliff contracted with families to provide in-home health care for individuals.
According to court documents, on April 21, detectives with the Union County Multi-Agency Task Force received a complaint about a caregiver stealing medication from a terminally ill patient.
Family members told investigators that Jolliff had been contracted to give care to the individual.
They noticed his prescription medication would be missing pills when Jolliff would leave. Family members explained they had counted the individual’s pills the day before and noticed that 10 percocets were missing after Jolliff left the home.
Because Jolliff was scheduled to be at the home, detectives installed secret cameras strategically in the home near where the medications were kept.
Detectives counted the pills then left before Jolliff arrived so they could monitor the surveillance equipment.
According to court documents, about 15 minutes before her shift was to begin, the detectives saw Jolliff “go to the prescription pill bottle and take pills out and walk away placing them in her jeans.”
Investigators waited for Jolliff’s shift to end then conducted a “controlled traffic stop” on County Home Road.
They also went to the home and counted the pills again, learning that nine pills were missing from the bottle.
Once in custody, Jolliff admitted to taking the medication and putting it in her jeans.
She told detectives that during the traffic stop she remembered she had the pills in her pocket and stuffed them into the back of her pants.
If convicted, Jolliff could face more than six years in prison.
Also indicted were:
-Victoria Rayleen Breidenbach, 31, of 656 Meadows Drive. Breidenbach is charged with one count of grand theft.
Phillips said that between November and March, Breidenbach was the manager at Palm Beach Tan in Marysville.
According to court documents Breidenbach, would allegedly use customer gift cards that still had a balance to buy products at the tanning salon.
The prosecutor said Breidenbach was able to purchase about $10,300 of products using the cards.
Phillips said that in addition to the products, she also received 10% commission on anything she sold, meaning the shop paid her an additional $1,030.
Phillips said the store made the customers whole for any loss.
If convicted, Breidenbach could face as many as 18 months in prison.
-Joshua Ryan Hostetler, 34, of 8460 Amish Pike, Plain City. Hostetler is charged with one count of aggravated possession of drugs, one count of possession of a fentanyl related compound and three counts of possession of drugs.
Phillips said that on Sept. 3, 2022, Plain City Police were called to Pastime Park on a report of a car that had a man, slumped over the steering wheel. Officials learned the car had been in the park for about five hours before children playing in the park saw him slumped over.
When police arrived, they began talking with Hostetler, who was the occupant, and saw alleged drugs in the seat beside the man.
If convicted, Hosteler could face 42 months in prison.
-Jared Daniel Specht, 36, whose court-listed address is the Southeastern Reginal Jail.
Specht is charged with one count of theft.
According to court documents, on April 12, Specht rented a trailer for one day, but didn’t return it.
“Recorded calls say he would bring it back, but that didn’t happen,” Phillips said.
If convicted, Specht could face as many as 12 months in prison.
