Jerome Township residents are invited to share their opinions as officials work on an update of the area’s comprehensive plan.
The Jerome Township Comprehensive Plan is a blueprint that guides growth in the future, but is not legally binding.
It is separate from the township’s Zoning Code, although they “work hand-in-hand,” according to the comp plan update website.
The existing comprehensive plan was adopted in 2008. The township is working with a consulting firm, MKSK, to update it.
“An update to the township’s current plan is needed to reflect changes in the community, establish priorities, and create a framework for sound decision-making over the next decade,” according to the project website. “Jerome Township has grown significantly since 2008 and now is the time to update our community profile and develop strong policies to maintain our quality of life and improve our quality of place.”
Those interested in participating in a community feedback survey that informs the update can do so at www.jerometownshipcomprehensiveplan.com
The survey questions include topics such as:
– Why did you choose to live in Jerome Township?
– How would you describe the community to someone who is unfamiliar?
– What’s one thing you would change about the township?
– What are the township’s greatest opportunities?
Participants are also able to rank which topics are most important to them, ranging from parks, recreation and trails to jobs and economic performance.
The survey answers are collected anonymously, but participants are asked to share how long they have lived in the township, their age range and race or ethnicity.
The comprehensive plan update process will last approximately 12-14 months, with representatives from MKSK estimating it ending in late March or early April.
