Jen Korn, Director of Student Services, and Denise English, Administrative Assistant, reached out to the Jonathan Alder Art Department and asked if there was any interest from a student in designing a custom Jonathan Alder mural for their office.
Art teacher Jennifer Moore immediately thought of senior Eva Boeckl to take on this project.
Moore had Boeckl for the first time a year ago in Painting I class and was impressed with her work ethic and talent.
“She has proven to be an outstanding Independent Art student in the short time we have been in school this year and the first art piece she completed this year only confirmed my instincts regarding her talent” said Moore.
Boeckl’s first art piece that she completed this year is a large grayscale self-portrait on canvas using acrylic paint mixed with a drywall compound giving the paint a very thick consistency that created a layered textural effect. The piece has been entered in the Scholastic Art & Writing Competition which is a highly prestigious national art competition.
“We are so honored that Eva gifted this mural to us as we loved having her in our office for the last few weeks,” Korn said. “You can tell that she has such a natural talent and that art and creative expression is calming for her.”
Boeckl will not be pursuing art after high school. Her plans are to go to college for chemical engineering and says she only uses her art and creative talents as a method of relaxation.
