Marysville announces top scholars

Editor’s note: The Journal-Tribune wants to celebrate the success of local high school students from the community and tell their story.
As the students graduate from high school, there are always a few that go above and beyond the others and we want to acknowledge their achievement.
Below is a listing of Marysville’s valedictorians. Included in that list are Celia Soller and Emma Rice, who were the number one and two students in the class.
The Marysville School District has named its top scholars for the 2017-18 school year.
This will be the first year that graduates will come from the Marysville High School (MHS) and the four-year-old Marysville Early College High School (MECHS). A total of 65 students have been named valedictorians for the class, 42 from MHS and 23 from MECHS.
According to the district website, valedictorians will be any student with at 4.1 GPA or above through seven semesters. Other designations include Summa Cum Laude: 4.0 and above, Magna Cum Laude: 3.750 to 3.999, and Cum Laude: 3.500 to 3.749.
The graduation ceremony is scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m. in the football stadium, but will move to the gymnasium in the event of inclement weather.
Two Valedictorians will be selected to speak at commencements, selected from candidates who submit an application and speech to a panel of teachers, who in turn make the selections.
Listed below are valedictorians from the two schools, including the names of their parents and college they will be attending.
