Another Marysville convenience store made a customer a millionaire when a $1 million Mega Millions ticket was sold at Corner Carryout.
“It’s always a cheerleading, happy session when someone wins here,” said Store Manager Julia Eickhoff.
The winner has not yet come forward to claim the prize but Eickhoff said she is “very excited” that a winning ticket was purchased at the South Maple Street store.
“I know most of my regular lottery customers by name. I know about their families,” said Eickhoff, who has been a store manager for eight years.
The $1 million second-tier prize was part of the $1.1 billion Mega Millions jackpot drawing. The local winner matched all five numbers, but did not match the Mega Ball.
The winning numbers were 7-13-14-15-18+9 MP = 3.
The ticket holder used the auto-pick feature to choose the winning numbers.
While a $1 million prize is the largest Eickhoff can recall in the time she has worked at Corner Carryout, she said there have been a number of winners at the store.
Owner Ricky Patel said a $50,000 ticket was sold around Christmastime in 2021, and a $10,000 ticket has been sold since then.
He said it makes him especially happy to see customers win at his store, which he believes is the oldest lottery agent in town. Corner Carryout received a $1,000 sales bonus for the ticket.
No matter which local store sells a winning ticket, though, Patel said it is “pretty exciting” to see community members win big.
“It’s absolutely great for our small community here,” he said.
He mentioned a $39.3 million jackpot prize in the Classic Lotto that was sold at the Village Pantry on West Fifth Street in November.
Marie Kilbane, public information officer for the Ohio Lottery Commission, said that prize was claimed Wednesday afternoon.
She added that a few Marysville residents claimed prizes larger than $20,000 in 2022.
She said the same Village Pantry also sold a $457,990 jackpot prize in the Ohio Jackpot 7s EZPLAY game in November. The prize was claimed by Larry Watkins of Marysville.
Another Village Pantry, located on East Fifth Street, sold a $40,000 prize in the $1,000,000 Cashworld. The ticket was claimed in June by Ronald Thawley of Marysville.
According to the Ohio Lottery Commission, the Mega Millions jackpot drawing included another winning ticket that was sold at The Party Pak in Upper Sandusky.
Neither winner from Tuesday’s drawing has come forward to claim the prize, but both the Marysville and Upper Sandusky winners have 180 days from the draw date to do so.
Patel, the owner of Corner Carryout, said he thinks the recent winnings show that it is worthwhile to “spend a couple dollars” for the chance at a jackpot.
“There’s definitely a chance to win,” he said.

$39M winner comes forward
The ticket for a Classic Lotto drawing on Nov. 5 for $39.3 million was claimed Wednesday afternoon.
“The ticket was claimed by the M&M’s Perfect Game Trust, William Mackin, trustee,” Marie Kilbane, public information officer with the Ohio Lottery Commission, wrote in an email to the Journal-Tribune.
Kilbane said the claim was finalized with the commission’s Office of Legal Counsel on Jan. 11.
The winner chose the lump sum, cash option payment on the jackpot prize, which will be a payout of $19.65 million before taxes.
Kilbane noted that, as required by law, the Ohio Lottery will withhold 24% federal and 4% state taxes on the prize.
The ticket was sold at Village Pantry on West Fifth Street, which received a $1,000 sales bonus.
