A Michigan man is in custody following a Sunday pursuit in excess of 100 mph on U.S. 33 while driving a vehicle stolen out of Columbus.
Sgt. Jeremy Allen of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said Demarco Washington, 21, of Benton Harbor, Michigan was checked for speeding while traveling westbound on U.S. 33 near mile marker 3, near Honda Parkway.
A trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but Allen said Washington failed to yield.
The trooper then initiated a pursuit at 6:27 a.m. that traveled about 10 miles into Logan County. The entirety of the pursuit took place on U.S. 33.
Allen said Washington was traveling at 110 mph during the pursuit.
Washington eventually traveled off the left side of the road, lost control of his vehicle and ended in the median of the highway.
The suspect then fled on foot, was tasered and taken into custody at 6:38 a.m. The pursuit concluded on U.S. 33 at mile marker 23, near Route 292.
The Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded and assisted at the scene. Washington was transported to the Tri-County Regional Jail.
He was charged with fleeing and eluding, theft of a motor vehicle, speeding, no turn signal, not driving in marked lanes, reckless operation and no driver’s license.
