An Ohio State Trooper who lives in Marysville has been arrested, charged with allegedly raping a teenage girl.
John David McLeod, 40, of 22261 McAdow Road, has been charged with two counts of rape, two counts of sexual battery and one count of aggravated trafficking in drugs. He is an OSP trooper assigned to the Springfield post.
According to court documents, earlier this month a deputy from the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office spoke with the mother of a 17-year-old girl.

The woman said that in June, her daughter had been staying with a relative at a home in Champaign County.
The girl told investigators that McLeod, who knows the girl, was also at the home. According to court documents, the girl told investigators that McLeod gave her alcohol as well as a prescription amphetamine.
The girl got sick and threw up in the bathroom, before McLeod allegedly gave her more alcohol. She said she was feeling “foggy” and struggling to walk.
When the girl went back to the room where she was sleeping, McLeod allegedly went into the room and laid down beside her. He allegedly told the girl that in other cultures it is “normal” for this type of relationship. The girl told investigators that McLeod said he had been thinking of having sex with her for “a long time” and that it would be a “perfect time” because it would make her feel better about a recent break-up.
The girl said McLeod took both their clothes off, laid on top of her and had sex with her.
“The victim indicated that the conduct stopped because she told the defendant to stop because she was ‘tired… it hurt.’ She indicated that the defendant did stop, but was angry because he had to do so,” according to court documents.
The woman told investigators her daughter, “brought this information to her a week after it happened, but begged her not to report it.”
She said the girl eventually spoke with a pastor who encouraged the mother to come forward.
Friday, investigators spoke with McLeod who did not want to talk about the incident.
He was taken into custody. Following an arraignment, McLeod was released on a $40,000 bond. He was placed on a GPS monitor and has been ordered not to have contact with the girl or to have any guns.
A preliminary hearing has been set for October 7.
McLeod has been a trooper since 2013. He has served as a trooper, an investigator and worked at a state penitentiary. He is currently on unpaid leave during the investigation.
According to records from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, in 2019, McLeod failed a random drug screen and tested positive for marijuana. Individuals close to the man have said he has a problem with alcohol use.
If convicted on all charges, McLeod could face more than 15 years in prison.
