A man and woman from Logan County have been indicted, charged with allegedly shooting at a man in Jerome Township.
The Union County Grand Jury has indicted Teosha N. Reynolds, 34, and Jamyle T. Bell, also known as Ja’veion Jones, 18, of Bellefontaine.
Jones is charged with one count each of felonious assault, having weapons while under disability, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, obstructing official business, falsification and tampering with evidence. Reynolds is charged with one count each of felonious assault, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, endangering children and tampering with evidence.
According to court documents, on Dec. 11, Bell was driving west on U.S. 33 in Jerome Township in a 2023 Honda CR-V. Reynolds and her 3-year-old son were in the car also.
Union County Sheriff Jamie Patton said at about 10:12 a.m. that day, his office received a 911 call from a Delaware County man. The caller said he was driving a 2016 Ford F-150 east on U.S. 33, but was exiting on the ramp to U.S. 42.
Patton said both drivers were “involved in some back and forth erratic driving.”
According to sheriff’s reports, while the truck was on the exit ramp, “an occupant in the Honda CR-V allegedly fired a weapon at the driver in the Ford F-150 striking the driver’s side door and hitting the driver in the leg.”
Patton said the bullet didn’t penetrate into the cab, but fragmented and caused a panel in the truck to break and the broken panel pieces hit and bruised the driver.
The caller said the CR-V stayed on U.S. 33.
Units from the Jerome Township Fire Department were called to the scene and transported the victim to Dublin Methodist Hospital. A report termed the injury as “minor.”
Deputies got behind the SUV on U.S. 33 near the pedestrian bridge in Marysville.
“Our deputy was following the car but we waited to get additional units there for safety reasons because there was a gun,” Patton said.
Deputies stopped the suspect vehicle on U.S. 33, east of Route 347 in Logan County.
Bell gave investigators the wrong name and said he was 17 years old.
During the stop, officials saw an unspent bullet on the back passenger floorboard.
When asked, Bell told investigators there were no weapons in the car.
As part of a search of the vehicle, investigators used a key to open the car’s glove box. Inside they found a handgun.
Bell was taken to the Central Ohio Youth Center until investigators were able to confirm his identity and take him to the Tri-County Regional Jail.
Bell is being held on $200,000 bond.
Reynolds is also being held at Tri-County Regional Jail with bail set at $100,000.
If convicted on all charges, Bell could face more than 20 years in prison.
Reynolds, if convicted on all charges, could face as many as 15 years in prison.
Because the indictment terms the alleged assault as a “drive-by shooting” and includes a firearm specification, both Bell and Reynolds could each face a mandatory five years in prison.
