Members of the Plain City Police Department are asking community members to come together to mourn the death of the infant girl whose body was found Friday.
“She deserved far more than she received, so please honor her by coming to the funeral home, lining the procession route and by attending the graveside service,” PCPD officials included in a press release.
PCPD officials said the funeral for the infant, who they are calling “Madison Baby Doe,” will be Saturday, June 24.
Calling hours will be held from 9-10 a.m., with the service beginning at 10 a.m. at Ferguson Funeral Home.
Following the service, there will be a procession from Ferguson Funeral Home, 202 E. Main St., Plain City, to the Forest Grove Cemetery, where a graveside service will be held. PCPD Chaplain Martin Guerena will officiate the service.
Funeral services have been donated by Ferguson Funeral Home and the headstone is being donated by Longstretch Monument, while the burial plot at Forest Grove Cemetery was donated by Darby Township.
PCPD officials said “there has been an outpouring offer of support from the public,” along with assistance from their partner agencies.
“Our partners and colleagues at the Madison County Coroner’s Office, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, the Madison County Prosecutor’s Office and the Pleasant Valley Joint Fire District have all been instrumental in this very tragic and extremely emotional process,” the release stated.
“Madison Baby Doe” was pronounced deceased Friday afternoon after PCPD received a call from the village’s contracted refuse company regarding a human body in the rear hopper of the garbage truck.
Officials said they are continuing to investigate, including establishing timelines and identifying witnesses and potential suspects.
“We will exhaust all viable leads and we will utilize all types of evidence to determine how this horrific event transpired and who is responsible,” PCPD officials wrote.
