The Plain City Police Department was recently named the February 2021 “Agency of the Month” for its outstanding community policing efforts by the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police and the Law Enforcement Foundation.
“It is our pleasure to recognize the outstanding efforts by the Plain City Police Department for their community policing commitment that helps make us stronger,” according to a statement from the association.
The recognition noted several of PCPD’s community programs.
The Safe Business Practices presentation informs local business owners of robbery awareness and prevention strategies, shoplifting prevention and detection, noticing bad checks, placing and maximizing surveillance cameras and suspicious persons or unwanted patrons.
Workplace Violence presentations also assist business owners in preventing and addressing such incidents.
PCPD also assists Jonathan Alder Local Schools and community churches in active shooter preparedness.
The Citizen Response to Active Shooter Events program includes a discussion of past events and trends, as well as instructional training on best practices.
The police department also spearheads The Pioneer Project at Jonathan Alder High School, Tolles Technical School, Plainview Christian School and Shekinah Christian School.
The project informs students of motor vehicle laws and impaired driving.
Students wear “drunk goggles” that simulate alcohol impairment and participate in a variety of activities to emphasize the importance of safely maneuvering a vehicle.
“We congratulate Chief McKee and the hardworking members of his agency that have gone above and beyond to provide quality community policing ideas to their citizen,” the association statement concluded.
