Plain City Mayor Jody Carney issued a proclamation during the most recent council meeting recognizing the contributions of resident Angie Matessa to the village. Matessa, at center, holding the proclamation, is pictured along with swimmers and their families belonging to the Plain City Sharks swim team. Parks and Recreation Director Linda Granger noted that Matessa helped establish the team in 2017. Granger said it is clear that the team filled a need in the community, as the goal in 2017 was to attract 15 to 20 swimmers, but more than 70 youth registered. The success of the program has continued to grow, Granger said, as there is now a cap on how many swimmers can join the team, due to high demand.
