Route 31 was closed following crash involving two semi-trucks, involving a rollover, about 7:30 a.m. this morning, north of Wheeler-Green Road. Chief Tim Merrick with the Liberty Township Fire Department said one truck was driving north on the road the other was driving south. He said it is unclear which vehicle went left of center first, but both trucks went off the roadway. Both trucks were hauling dry cement. Officials at the scene said a side fuel tank of the south bound truck ruptured, spilling about 200 gallons of diesel fuel on the ground near a ditch. A responding deputy from the Union County Sheriff’s Office saw flames coming from that truck and quickly extinguished the fire. The northbound truck was quickly moved from the scene. The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency was called to the scene. The driver off the southbound truck was transported to Memorial Hospital. Wreckers were on the scene about 10 a.m. hoping to move the truck and get the road open again, though as of press time it remained closed.
