Children throughout Plain City will have an opportunity to see Santa Saturday, while families have an opportunity to give to those in need.
Following Christmas Under the Clock, at 7 p.m. Dec. 4, Santa will be traveling through Plain City to greet the local children.
He will begin his route by traveling west on Main Street, then turn south on Route 42.
Santa will take a slight detour through the Meadows and then drive by the Plain City Municipal Building, 800 Village Blvd.
He will then head over to the Carriage/Darby Estates area, then east on Lantern Lane.
Santa will continue south toward Darby Estates and then back north on Chillicothe Street to finish his rout on Jackson and Church streets, up Shepper Avenue and then south on Chillicothe Street, ending at his starting point in Uptown Plain City.
Aside from seeing Santa in person, Plain City children can also mail him letters.
Beginning today, children drop a letter in the mailbox at the flatiron and will receive a response
from Santa. They must be dropped off by Dec. 15 in order to receive a letter from Santa, since it takes so long for mail to get to the North Pole.
Templates for letters for younger and older children are available at www.plain-city.com.
During the holiday season, the Plain City Police Department is encouraging the community to pitch in to support those in need.
PCPD will host its third annual “Cram the Cruiser” toy drive during Christmas Under the Clock, from 4-7 p.m. Dec. 4.
PCPD Chief Dale McKee said at a recent council meeting that the event has been so successful that the department will now use their larger events trailer to collect toys, rather than a cruiser.
Officers will collect new, unwrapped toys to benefit families in need. New coats, gloves, hats, boots and other winter gear is also accepted.
The Plain City D.N.A. Community Center is also hosting “The Remembered Child Christmas Store” during the holiday season.
Those who would like to donate a gift to stock the store can sign up to do so at www.dnaplaincity.org/christmas-store and clicking the “Give Gift” button at the bottom of the page.
Donors will be provided with a shopping list that they should select gifts from.
Gifts should be dropped off at D.N.A. Community Center, 340 W. Main Street, Plain City, OH 43064 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The deadline for donations is Dec. 8.
Those who would like to volunteer at the store will serve in three-hour shifts. Shifts are available Dec. 13-17 from 1-7 p.m. and Dec. 18 from 12-3 p.m.
The number of shoppers will be limited to four per half-hour. Masks will be strongly recommended and hand sanitizer and gloves will be available in an attempt to keep the store as COVID-safe as possible.
Those who live in Plain City and are in need of financial assistance are invited to shop for Christmas gifts at the store.
Appointments are required to shop and can be scheduled at the website listed above, by clicking the “Make an Appointment” button at the top of the page.
