Union County Sheriff Jamie Patton was present at Richwood’s Monday night village council meeting. He explained to council members about an event that took place Sept. 6 outside of the village limits.
A call came into the 9-1-1 switchboard regarding a possible suicide in the 10000 block of Tawa Road. Union County Sheriff’ Deputy William Stuff was dispatched to the call and assistance was needed from the Richwood Police department. Upon arrival,the officers found a female who had attempted to hang herself. The quick reaction of Deputy Stuff and Richwood PD Officers Woodrow Geer and Cody Martindale, got the victim released from the rope and called for the Northern Union County Fire and EMS. Their quick actions saved the woman’s life.
Sheriff Patton presented both officers with a Life Saving Award in recognition of their efforts. Patton also went on to tell council how much he appreciates the cooperation of the Richwood PD when they are needed to assist in other calls and that the sheriff’s department also is available for the local police department.
Councilman Reddy Brown, president of the Richwood Redevelopment Committee gave a review of the work being done to the former town hall/opera house building. He reported that the 80 percent of the flooring on the second floor has been completed and more shoring up the beams in the ceiling should be done this week. Brown is also meeting with Sara Barr to discuss hiring her business to do a feasibility study of the building. Other work to be completed in the contract is to remove an antenna from the outside of the building, using measuring equipment to make sure the weight of the beams has not moved any of the scaffolding. A rubber roof will also be installed when the weather breaks.
In other business, council:
-Heard that Village Administrator Monte Asher met with Randy Morse of Discount Portables. He has two almost new portable restroom units that are available to the village for Richwood Park. In a contract, it would be serviced one time a week and would have hand sanitizer and toilet paper provided in return for allowing his company to dump 1,200 gallons a week of sludge at the fairgrounds trailer dump station. The fairboard has given permission and if any acts of vandalism occur, costs would be split between the village and the company. After some discussion, council passed the motion;
-Heard that storm catch basins were cleaned from ice and snow for better water flow;
-Heard Asher report that there is a food leak above the evidence room in the village administration building. He will be getting quotes of repairs and possible replacement of the front half of the building roof replaced.
The next village council meeting will be held on Monday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m.
