Students from two Union County schools, St. John’s Lutheran School and Fairbanks Middle School shared a banner filled with encouraging messages with veterans and military members as they toured Washington, D.C., with their classes recently. The banner originated at an evening of honor and recognition held April 12 at the Ohio National Guard Armory in Marysville, home of Battery C, 1st Battalion, 134th Field Artillery Regiment. As part of the evening’s activities, attendees were given the opportunity to sign the banner and send a message of thanks and encouragement to American soldiers. The event was organized by The Golden Eagles Senior Ministry of St. John’s and St. Paul Lutheran churches and The Union County Military Family Support Group to not only honor past and present soldiers, but to offer support and to introduce the members of the relatively new local National Guard unit to the Marysville community. Funds raised were directed to the unit’s Family Readiness Group, which organizes activities for Guard members and their families and supports them while members are deployed on active duty.
