A Columbus man is behind bars after leading local law enforcement on a pursuit that ended with a crash.
According to Union County Sheriff’s Office reports, deputies attempted to stop a 2004 Honda Accord, driven by Donnie A. Griffin, 22, for speeding on Route 4, near Collins Avenue,.
The vehicle fled south on Route 4 and struck a utility pole while trying to turn onto Milford Avenue.
According to Chief Deputy Tom Morgan, the deputy was unable to pursue, though Morgan was unsure why. He cited road conditions as possible reasons.
He said a deputy reported Griffin fled at around 100 miles per hour.
Griffin was charged with speeding and operating a vehicle without a license. A passenger, Jessica A. Slayton, 28, of Marion, was charged with obstructing official business.
Griffin was being held at the Tri-County Regional Jail. Slayton is not listed on the jail’s website.
