The Columbus Division of Fire’s bomb squad was in Marysville on Thursday to help local law enforcement dispose of a suspicious package. At approximately 10:57 a.m., Thursday, a woman called police from Eljer Park. The woman called police after seeing a suspicious package under the park’s pedestrian bridge, near an abutment, pictured above. When officials arrived at the scene they found a small package, “wrapped in what appeared to be black duct tape with no visible markings.” The package is pictured below. Law enforcement contacted the Marysville Division of Fire, as well as the Columbus bomb squad. Officials from the bomb squad decided it would be safer to destroy the package in a controlled detonation rather have it potentially explode on its own. According to a release from police, “remains of the package were examined and found to be of no harm.” Traffic was detoured around the incident and the area was closed until almost 4 p.m. as officials investigated.
